We built the employer we wanted to work for
Ubique started in 2019 with a lawyer, a product lead and one question: why is employing someone in another country still this hard? Seven years later we are 42 people in 18 countries, and we still have no office.
A lawyer and a product lead walk into a video call
Hanna Lindqvist spent ten years as an international employment lawyer. Most of her week went on the same problem: a client wanted to hire one person in a country where it had no entity, and the honest answer was "six months and a lot of money". Tomás Ribeiro had just left a fintech where he ran the product that paid out in 40 currencies. He thought the payroll side was a solved problem that nobody had packaged for employers.
They founded Ubique Group Limited in London in March 2019. The first hire was in Lisbon, the second in Buenos Aires. There was never an office, so there was never a question of who had to be in it.
Today Ubique employs people for 1,200 clients in 160 countries, pays contractors in 200, and runs its own entities in 40. The founders still lead the company: Hanna as CEO, Tomás as Chief Product Officer.
2019
Founded in London. Seed round. First employees placed in Portugal and Argentina through a partner.
2020
Series A. Own entities opened in the UK, Portugal, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland. Remote hiring goes mainstream and so do we.
2022
Series B of $120M. Team peaks at 60. Coverage reaches 120 countries.
2023
Restructuring. We cut to 45 people and refocused on the 40 countries we run ourselves, with partners everywhere else. It was the right call and it was not fun.
2025
Series C due diligence completed. The company remains independent. 160 countries, VEO live in Germany and Spain, 42 employees at year end.
Well funded, still ours
We have raised $138M in total. Seed in 2019, Series A in 2020 and a $120M Series B in 2022. In 2025 we went through a full Series C due diligence process. We chose not to close it. Ubique has not been acquired and is not for sale.
Why we restructured in 2023
At 60 people we were trying to run too many countries ourselves. Quality slipped in the ones that mattered. We cut to 45, kept the 40 countries where we had real local teams, and moved the rest to vetted partners. Clients get a clear answer on which is which.
Why we are still independent
Being acquired by a larger HR platform would have meant folding our payroll teams into someone else's. Our customers told us the local teams were the reason they chose us. We listened, and we kept the company.
What the money goes on
Local legal and payroll partners in 20 countries, the entities behind the 40 countries we run, security and compliance, and the product. Not offices, not billboards.
Four things we actually mean
Say which is which
If a country is partner-served, we say so before you sign. If a timeline is longer, we tell you the number. Honesty beats a nice pitch.
Payday is sacred
Every team member we employ gets paid correctly, on time, in local currency. Everything else can slip. This cannot.
Write it down
We work across 20 time zones. Decisions live in documents, not in meetings someone missed because it was 3am.
Be the employer we sell
Every Ubique employee is hired through Ubique's own EOR, on the same contracts, benefits and leave policies our clients get.

Our registered office is a mailbox in Covent Garden
Ubique Group Limited is registered at 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ. That is where the post goes. Nobody works there. We rent meeting rooms when a client wants to meet in person, and we fly the whole company to one place once a year.
Being remote is not a perk we offer. It is how the product got built. Every Ubique employee is onboarded, paid and supported through the same platform you would use, so when something is clunky, we feel it first.
Why Ubique, including what we don't doCore hours overlap: 13:00 to 16:00 UTC. Everything else is async.
