Why Ubique

We tell you which 40 countries we run ourselves

Every Employer of Record claims 150-plus countries. Almost none of them own entities in more than a few dozen. The rest is partners. We think you should know which is which before you hire, so we put a badge on every country page. This page is the rest of that honesty.

Ubique-run versus partner-served

What actually differs, country by country

In 40 countries Ubique Group Limited owns the local entity, employs the person directly and runs payroll with its own team. In 20 of those we also have in-house legal and payroll staff on the ground. In the other 120 countries, a vetted local partner is the legal employer and we manage them.

The difference is real and we would rather you plan for it than discover it:

Why we publish this

Because the question "who is my employee's actual employer?" deserves an answer before the contract is signed, not in an audit. Most customers hire in Ubique-run countries most of the time. When they do not, they know the timeline.

How partners are vetted

Local licensing, financial standing, data protection terms matching our DPA, a reference client, and an annual review. Partners who miss a payroll deadline twice are replaced. We have replaced seven since 2021.

Where we are opening next

Entity openings are decided by customer demand. We add two to four Ubique-run countries a year. Your account manager can tell you what is planned.

What we do not have yet

Three things you will read in our reviews, from us first

01

No mobile app

Ubique is a responsive web app. It works on a phone for approving leave and expenses, viewing a payslip or signing a contract, but there is no native iOS or Android app. We chose to spend 2024 and 2025 on compliance automation and payroll accuracy in the countries we run, rather than on an app that wraps the same screens. A native app is on the roadmap for 2027.

02

Reporting is basic

You get CSV and scheduled exports for headcount, cost by country and entity, leave balances and compliance events, plus accounting exports to Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite and Sage Intacct. There is no custom report builder. If you need cross-tabs, the API feeds your BI tool. A report builder is in development, with enterprise customers in early access.

03

The price is high for tiny teams

£499 per employee per month is a lot when you employ two people. We say so on the startups page. What it buys is a legal employer with its own entity in 40 countries, a legal team tracking statutory changes daily, and a 4-business-hour response target. For one or two people, start on contractors at £29 and convert when it is worth it.

What we are good at

The parts that justify the fee

  • Contract quality. Drafted per country by Ubique's legal team, in the local language and English, and reviewed each time a statute changes. Not a template with the country name swapped in.
  • Payroll accuracy. In Ubique-run countries our own payroll team runs gross-to-net and reconciles every cycle. You can see the calculation per employee, not just the total.
  • Compliance updates in real time. A minimum wage change or a new leave entitlement appears in the dashboard with the effective date and what Ubique is doing about it.
  • 4-business-hour response. Email 24/7, live chat in European and American business hours, a named account manager from 10 employees, and a target we publish and track.
