What does this hire actually cost?

Salary is the number you negotiate. Employer contributions, mandatory benefits and the Ubique fee are the numbers that hit your budget. Estimate all of them in ten seconds.

Employee through Employer of Record, or contractor. No sign-up.

Example · senior engineer, Portugal
Gross salary€65,000
Employer cost€15,438
Ubique fee£5,988
Monthly total≈ €7,290

Illustrative figures. Use the calculator below for your own country, salary and model.

For a contractor, enter the agreed annual rate.

This is an estimate for budgeting. It excludes optional benefits, bonuses, equipment and one-off costs, and it is not a quote. Employer contributions use the first rate published for the country, so bands and caps are not applied.

What's in the number

Four lines, one budget

Gross salary. What you agree with the hire, before their income tax and employee-side contributions. In most countries this is the figure on the contract.

Employer contributions. What the law adds on top for the employer: social security, pension, health, unemployment and accident insurance. In Ireland it is 11%. In France it can pass 40%. The calculator takes the headline rate from Ubique Atlas for the country you pick.

Ubique fee. £499 per employee per month for Employer of Record, £29 per contractor per month for Contractor Management. Flat, no percentage of salary, no set-up fee. Volume discounts start at 25 employees and annual billing takes 10% off. See pricing.

Total. Salary plus contributions plus fee, per year and per month. That is the number to put in your plan.

Not included

Optional benefits (private health, meal allowances, supplementary pension), bonuses and commissions, equity, IT equipment, visa support, severance and 13th-month salaries where customary. Ask us for a per-country quote on the add-on services.

Contractors

Contractors invoice you and handle their own tax and social contributions, so employer contributions show as zero. Before you rely on that, run the free Misclassification Risk Check.

Precision

Real payroll applies contribution caps, bands and sector rates. For a salary close to a cap the estimate can be a few percent high. Your account manager gives you the exact figure before the contract is issued.

Worked example

Same salary, three countries

A £60,000-equivalent gross salary for an employee via Employer of Record, using Atlas headline rates and 12 months of the standard fee.

CountryEmployer contributionsUbique feeTotal annualMonthly
Ireland11.05% · £6,630£5,988£72,618£6,052
United Kingdom13.8% · £8,280£5,988£74,268£6,189
France42% · £25,200£5,988£91,188£7,599

The fee is the same everywhere. The contributions are not, which is why country choice often matters more than the Ubique line.
